Brief History of the Faculty
The Faculty of Management Sciences used to be part of the erstwhile Faculty of the Social and Management Sciences. In the old Faculty, the Department of Banking and Finance was established in 1985/1986 academic session as an addition to the other five (5) Departments (Economics, Geography, Political Sciences, Psychology and Sociology) existing prior to that time In 1991/1992 academic session, two additional departments namely; Accounting and Business Administration were established to join the existing ones. On 1st of August, 2000, the Departments of Accounting, Banking and Finance and Business Administration were calved out from the Faculty of the Social Sciences to form Faculty of Management Sciences as an autonomous Faculty. Since its establishment, the Faculty has lived up to expectation as a full-fledged Faculty and now has its own Faculty building. The Faculty runs Bachelor and Postgraduate degree programmes in the three (3) major Departments up to Ph.D level. Since its inception, the Faculty has produced high quality graduates, many of whom have occupied high positions in both public and private establishments as well as those that are successful employers of labour based on their own owned establishments/businesses.
The Faculty has three (3) Departments housing nine (9) academic programmes. All the nine programmes are fully accredited by NUC. The Faculty enjoys remarkable support on the staff development. A good number of our young lecturers who are on sponsorship either by the University or TETFund are on study leave within and outside the country. In addition, the staffs of the faculty enjoy the support of the University in attendance of learned conferences and workshops both locally and internationally.
The pioneer leaders of the Faculty at inception are Prof. C. S. Ola, LL.M. (Lond), FCTI, FIBA, FNIM, FCA as Dean, and Dr. A. A. Owojori, Dr. J. A. Oloyede and Mr. T. K. O.
